CLOSING CEREMONY HELD AT CITY WALK
Meraas sponsored the final stage of the Dubai Tour 2017, organised by Dubai Sports Council in partnership with RCS Sport and Events. Dubai Tour saw the best teams and riders compete in a magnificent showcase of the city and the fifth ‘Meraas Stage’ concluded on Al Mustaqbal Street at City Walk.
Meraas’ urban living destination provided the backdrop for an exhilarating climax to the fourth edition of the annual showpiece, as German cyclist Marcel Kittel won a sprint to the finish line to retain his crown in front of thousands of spectators.
Television audiences from 182 countries also tuned in to watch the final 124-kilometre stage, the Meraas stage, of the region’s most powerful endurance weave its way through old and new Dubai. The route led cyclists across all of the city’s iconic landmarks.
After emerging victorious, Kittel was presented with the Circle of Stars, from His Highness Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai International Marine Club, on the podium with Dylan Groenewegen and John Degenkolb.
The closing ceremony was followed by a lively street festival headlined by rising stars, Naz Holland and Souled Out, who provided an evening of smooth jazz and soulful vocals.
The festival provided a fitting end to a spectacular day, with cycling fans and families from the surrounding communities coming together with visitors to socialise and enjoy an evening of live entertainment.
