Hala China has revealed a star-studded line-up for the opening night of Chinese Film Week in Dubai, with some of the biggest names in Chinese film and television set to grace the red carpet event at Roxy Cinemas, City Walk.

Among those anticipated to fly in for the prestigious gala on 1 October 2018 are Zhang Jiani, star of the smash-hit period drama ‘The Story of Yanxi Palace’ and TV series’ ‘Here To Heart’, ‘Youth’ actress Miao Miao, ‘The Way We Were’ actor Wang Tianchen and ‘Dragon’ star Li Xiaoran. Also due to attend are ‘New Horizon’ star Hu Bing, ‘Crying Out in Love’ actress Yang Tongshu and the celebrity couple Lin Yongjian and Zhou Dongqi.

Pop star Li Xiangxiang, the Chinese Idol and Chinese Dream Voice sensation, will perform live outside Roxy Cinemas.

Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Hala China, said: “Chinese Film Week in Dubai, the first event to take place as part of Hala China, is aligned with the initiative’s core objective of promoting closer ties between China and the UAE. We are encouraged by the calibre of the celebrities that are due to attend, which bodes well for bilateral relations, cultural exchange and for our efforts in realising Dubai’s ambition of reaching 20 million international visitors annually by 2020.”

“We are also confident that the timing of the event and the choice of films will provide Chinese residents and visitors with an opportunity to come together and celebrate their national day.”

Chinese Film Week in Dubai, which pays homage to China’s film industry, will take place during the Chinese National Day holiday, known as Golden Week. The event will feature several popular blockbusters, including “You are in my heart”, “Youth”, “Dragon Blade”, “To The Fore”, “Big Fish and Begonia”, “Miss Granny”, “The Nightingale”, “American Dreams”, “Wolf Totem” and “Monkey King: Hero is back”.

Her Excellency Li Lingbing, Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Dubai, said: “The Chinese Film Week in Dubai will help showcase the high standard of Chinese cinema and the quality of talent we have within China’s film industry, including production and writing, which is driving its success. The films will also help to promote Chinese culture, history and development at an important time of year for Chinese nationals globally.”

Chinese Film Week in Dubai aims to capitalise on growing Chinese visitor numbers in Dubai, including those travelling to the region during Golden Week, in addition to the 270,000 Chinese expats living in UAE. The UAE has seen the number of overnight visitors from China rise by over 100 per cent since 2014, with a year-on-year increase of 41.4 percent from 2016 to 2017.

In addition, Hala China is focused on creating an annual schedule of experiences and tourism packages for Chinese visitors within seven categories – stay, shop, eat, play, explore, wellness and concierge. As part of the yearlong pipeline of events, Dubai is due to host a series of food festivals, fashion shows, sporting events, music festivals and cultural pageants among others.

Chinese Film Week in Dubai will be followed by a Chinese cultural exhibition in November and a cooking competition in January, where 15 leading Chinese chefs will create national dishes.
