Hussain Al Jassmi and Balqees to headline Meraas National Day celebrations

Meraas, the Dubai-based holding company, is gearing up to host spectacular National Day celebrations across its destinations from 28 November to 2 December. With star-studded concerts, fireworks and tons of activities for the kids, Meraas has everything you need to add a touch of national pride to your five-day weekend.

Concerts and Fireworks

La Mer, Dubai’s world-class beachfront destination, will serve as the backdrop for four live performances by popular Arab singers, set to take place over three days from 9pm. Emirati artist Eida Al Menhali will kick-off the musical extravaganza on 29 November, while Kuwaiti sensation Essa Al Marzouq and Emirati pop phenomenon Balqees take the stage on 1 December. Murex d’Or award winner and Expo2020 Dubai Ambassador, Hussain Al Jassmi will wrap up the festivities on 2 December. 

And if you haven’t had enough music over the long weekend, drop by Al Seef’s promenade on 6 December to take in a special performance by up-and-coming Khaleeji music star Mohamed Al Shehhi who will delight fans with a curated selection of hits, which combine traditional and western influences. 

And that’s not all. On 1 and 2 December, watch fireworks light up the sky at Al Seef at 8pm, La Mer at 8:30pm, and The Beach and Bluewaters at 9pm to commemorate the birth of the nation. 

Family Entertainment 

Meraas destinations have a variety of fun-filled activities in store for visitors big and small. Visit City Walk, the open-air lifestyle destination, and kick-start your evening with lively performances by traditional drummers and flag dancers at 4:30pm.

Don’t miss out on National Day special offers at The Outlet Village’s retail stores and take an Insta-perfect picture with roaming stilt walkers dressed in national colours while you’re at it. 

Children can enjoy pot painting and Arabian doll making workshops at The Outlet Village, Boxpark and Last Exit, or get busy at the UAE themed arts and crafts corners at, Al Seef, Bluewaters and at The Beach, who is also hosting drumming sessions for the little ones. Meanwhile, ribbon dancers will fill the air with colour at Kite Beach, with four shows scheduled daily from 28 November to 2 December. 

Arts and Culture

Take a trip down memory lane at Boxpark with traditional Al Ayala dancers, and let a henna artist decorate your palms with intricate Arabian patterns. Or watch as folkloric dancers take to streets of City Walk and the halls of The Outlet Village, while traditional Oud players serenade the crowds at Bluewaters. 

Stroll through Al Seef’s Heritage area and witness traditional fisherman net-making, pottery making, a sand artist, pearl harvester and grab dinner at the Emirati street food station. Enjoy a cool evening at the creek while Jalasat Khaleejiya performs live to bring listeners songs rich in folklore as well as remixes of traditional Khaleeji tunes.

City Walk will host a calligraphy artist who will captivate spectators with traditional artwork during the celebrations. You can also experience the art of Calligraffiti live at Last Exit Al Khawaneej as an artist transforms a blank wall into a masterpiece with Arabic calligraphy from 29 November to 2 December.
